The retrospective exhibition Kathy Butterly I ColorForm is currently on display at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art through Dec. 29. The exhibition, sculptural and full of unexpected shapes and bright colors, is a must-see. Don’t miss a chance to see the artist herself: Butterly will be delivering a talk tonight as part of the Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series from 4:30 p.m to 6 p.m.

• The UC Davis Department of Theatre and Dance presents “The Threepenny Opera,” showing from Nov. 14 through Nov. 23. The play is “...a criticism of capitalism and middle-class morality, set in a world of corruption with a score that draws upon opera, jazz and cabaret. Set in Victorian London, the musical focuses on the exploits of Macheath, an amoral criminal, who manipulates women and the law with equal dexterity.” The play contains adult themes and language. • The C.N. Gorman Museum invites you to “Join us in a gaming session of Ehdrigohr with Designer Allen Turner, and his talk about finding creative voice.” Allen Turner is of Black/Lakota/Irish descent and his table-top RPG Ehdrigor “...pulls from the myths and folklore of indigenous and tribal peoples from all over the world, while exploring allegorical battles with depression, solitude, identity, and erasure.”

UC Davis Symphony Orchestra, Jackson Hall, Mondavi Center, Saturday Nov. 23, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., $12 children and students, $24 adults

• The UC Davis Symphony Orchestra headed by Christian Baldini, music director and conductor, will perform works by Strauss, Lutosławski, and Rachmaninov. Special guest Maximilian Haft will join the Lutosławski performance of Chain II on the violin and Leyla Kabuli will join the Rachmaninov performance of Piano Concerto No. 2 on the piano.

“Stephen Kaltenbach: The Beginning and The End,” opens in January. The Manetti Shrem Museum at the University of California, Davis, traces the arc of California Conceptual artist and UC Davis alumnus Stephen Kaltenbach’s career in a new exhibition opening Jan. 26, 2020.
