New vice provost will head newly named Global Affairs

UC Davis has resumed its search for a vice provost to lead the university’s international endeavors, and announced that whomever is chosen will lead an office with a new name: Global Affairs.

The newly approved name replaces University Outreach and International Programs, led by Bill Lacy for 15 years until he stepped down last summer. Adrienne L. Martín, a professor of Spanish literature, has been the interim vice provost since then, moving up from her post as the associate vice provost for international programs.

More information about the search for a new vice provost is available here.

Mail services to collect letters and food donations

Give your departmental mail some company in the outbox by putting some food in there, too, for Mail Services’ ninth annual Holiday Food Drive.

Mail personnel will collect food donations from Nov. 3 to 21 on the Davis and Sacramento campuses, for the benefit of the Food Bank of Yolo County, and Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, respectively.

Last year’s drive netted 1,647 pounds of food on the Davis campus and 967 pounds on the Sacramento campus.

“Our delivery drivers will be out there in departments encouraging donations,” said Jen Carmichael of Distribution Services.

Here’s a list of suggested items: canned, ready-to-eat meals; canned meat, fish and soups; canned vegetables and tomato products; dry beans (any type); enriched rice and pasta; ramen; boxed macaroni and cheese; canned fruit (in juice); peanut butter (plastic container); iron-rich cereal (45 percent or more of the daily value); powdered milk; fruit juice (100 percent, in plastic containers 48 ounces or smaller); and powdered milk formula and Similac baby food.
