Major requirements for the College of Letters and Science
Students applying for transfer admission to selective majors must meet additional course and GPA requirements. All courses must be taken for a letter grade with no grade less than C. All major preparatory course requirements must be completed by the end of spring term before fall enrollment.
Some majors in the College of Letters and Science have additional transfer requirements:

- Data Science

- Mathematical Analytics and Operations Research
- Mathematical and Scientific Computation

- Psychology
- Statistics
Students are expected to take courses comparable to the UC Davis course requirements as long as they are offered at the California community college (CCC) they attend. When the ASSIST website indicates “no comparable course” or “not articulated,” the selective major course requirement will be waived for UC Davis admission/TAG, but must be completed after enrolling at UC Davis. You can find CCC courses that are comparable to UC Davis courses using the ASSIST website.
To be well prepared, it is strongly recommended that students complete all lower-division coursework requirements for their major, as shown on the ASSIST website.
Preparation for specific majors
Applied Mathematics
Requirements in addition to general admission requirements and TAG requirements:
- Complete the following courses and maintain a 3.00 GPA in the entire group of courses:
- Mathematics 21A/B/C/D
- Mathematics 22A or Mathematics 27A or Mathematics 67
- Mathematics 22B or Mathematics 27B
Applied Physics

- Complete the following courses and maintain a 3.00 GPA in the entire group of courses:
- Physics 9A/B/C/D OR Physics 9HA/HB/HC/HD/HE
- Mathematics 21A/B/C/D
- Mathematics 22A/B
Data Science
Requirements in addition to general admission requirements:
- Complete the following courses and maintain a 3.20 GPA in the entire group of courses:
- Engineering Computer Science 032A, 032B
- Mathematics 021A, 021B, 021C
- Mathematics 022A
- Statistics 013 or 035A
Data Science in the College of Letters and Science is closed to TAG. All students interested in applying to the Data Science major must apply for the regular fall transfer UC application in November.
Economics

Statistics
Starting fall 2026 Statistics will become a selective major.
Requirements in addition to general admission requirements and TAG requirements:
- Complete the following courses and maintain a 3.00 GPA in the entire group of courses:
- Mathematics 016ABC or 017ABC or 019ABC or 021ABC
- Note: The Statistics major has four tracks: Applied (A.B. or B.S.), General (B.S.), Machine Learning (B.S.), and Statistical Data Science (B.S.). Students pursuing the General, Machine Learning, or Statistical Data Science tracks are required to take Mathematics 021ABC. The 021 series is also recommended for the Applied track.

- Mathematics 016ABC or 017ABC or 019ABC or 021ABC
Additional Recommendations:
- Students pursuing the General, Machine Learning or Statistical Data Science tracks are strongly recommended to take Mathematics 021D pre-matriculation.
- All tracks are recommended to take Engineering Computer Science 032A or 036A pre-matriculation.
