After a summer of heat waves, wildfires, orange skies and hurricanes, people are beginning to recognize that climate change is here now. But are we too late?
In its second season, Unfold, a UC Davis podcast, explores the solutions to and complexities of climate change. Hosts Amy Quinton and Kat Kerlin talk to researchers who think this unprecedented crisis calls for unprecedented solutions, including projects that pull CO2 out of the air.
The season’s first episode, “Climate Change and COVID-19,” launches today (Sept. 22). It examines what the pandemic crisis is teaching us about the climate crisis.
Experts cross a range of disciplines. In the first episode, listeners will hear from:
- Fraser Shilling, co-director, Road Ecology Center at UC Davis
- Ben Houlton, affiliate faculty member, former director of the John Muir Institute of the Environment at UC Davis
- Helene Margolis, associate adjunct professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, UC Davis School of Medicine
- Tracey Goldstein, associate director, One Health Institute at UC Davis
The award-winning podcast will launch a new episode every Tuesday from now through Nov. 17. From carbon farming to electric cars, the series examines the best ways to transition to a low-carbon future. The hosts travel from California to Kenya to examine how climate change is punishing the world’s poor and how insurance might protect them when drought hits.
Next week’s second episode unfolds the climate change series Becoming Arizona to discuss how cities can prepare for a hotter future.
The Unfold podcast is available free, on demand at Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Amazon's Tunein, Stitcher, Pandora, Spotify and will soon be on all Echo devices.
