UC Davis student-athletes are showcasing their artwork at the Buehler Alumni Center Gallery this week, and a third winter-quarter exhibition opens Thursday (Feb. 1) at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art.

Art of Athletes IX, coordinated by Nica Taglieri, a junior who plays field hockey, features more than 30 exhibits by 17 student-athletes from nine intercollegiate teams, 14 majors and all four undergraduate colleges.

An opening reception with the artists was held last Friday night, and the exhibition will be on display through this Thursday (Feb. 1). The hosting Buehler Alumni Center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily; admission is free.

The Manetti Shrem Museum debuted Wayne Thiebaud 1958-1968 and Tacita Dean: Day for Night earlier this month. Now comes ¿¡Welcome?! — exploring the competing meanings of hospitality and the different ways it can be seen as a form of welcome or hostility, driven by necessity and greed, fear and desires, and subject to conventional demands of etiquette and the law.

¿¡Welcome?! is the 1-year-old museum’s first faculty-curated exhibition at the 1-year-old museum — the honor goes to Susette Min, associate professor of Asian American studies.
