He promised, his friends and supporters donated, and he followed through: He dressed as Bossy the Cow for a recent UC Davis football game, stood in front of the alumni section and led the Aggie Fight Song! Now, also as promised, you can see Rich "Bossy the Cow" Engel on YouTube!
“Anything for the students,” said Engel, assistant vice chancellor of Alumni Relations and the executive director of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association. With his promise, he raised more than $1,410 for UC Davis scholarships in UC’s Promise for Education campaign.
The social media campaign had raised more than $1.3 million as of today (Nov. 8), a just over a week after the official close (donations are still being taken — the website states, “Let’s fund every promise left!” — but no more promises are being taken).
UC Davis had raised more than $28,637 as of midday today, including $10,555 for Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi’s promises. She achieved (and exceeded) her $10,000 goal, so she will keep her promises to work at the Coffee House for a day and throw a VIP Greek Gala.
Engel — who has two degrees from UC Davis, a bachelor's in agricultural education (1990) and a teaching credential (1991) — had specified in his promise when he would dress as Bossy the Cow and lead the fight song: at the Nov. 2 football game against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, in the annual Battle for the Golden Horseshoe.
Bossy (the title character in UC Davis’ “Bossy Cow-Cow” cheer), made her first appearance on Aggie Tailgate Field, accompanied by Terry Tumey, director of athletics.
They went from there into Aggie Stadium, where they ran up and down the sidelines, encouraging people to sing the fight song — as the Cal Aggie Marching Band-uh! played and the team rushed onto the field.
Engel topped off the song with a body bump with Gunrock at the 50-yard line!
Here’s some of what else we have in store as more promises are fulfilled (money totals as of Nov. 12):
