Kathy Barton, executive director of strategic initiatives at the UC Riverside School of Medicine, is next in line to be staff adviser to the Board of Regents.
Barton
UC President Mark G. Yudof made the announcement at the board’s May 16 meeting in Sacramento. Officially, Barton will serve as staff adviser designate in 2012-13, working alongside Staff Adviser Kevin Smith of UCLA, before becoming staff adviser herself in 2013-14.
“Kathy's work during her long career at UC Riverside and her engagement and involvement with staff organizations give her a good grasp of the challenges facing the university and its employees,” Yudof said. “As an experienced and skilled communicator, she will be an able advocate for both staff and UC. I look forward to working with her over the next two years.”
Barton replaces Penny Herbert of the UC Davis Medical Center, whose two-year appointment ends June 30.
