IN BRIEF: Paving work near campus; Try Before You Buy at the ARC

PAVING WORK NEAR CAMPUS: A repaving project is about to begin on three city streets at the north edge of campus, and city officials are advising that the work could slow you down if you are driving, biking or walking to or from the university.

The work zone takes in stretches of Russell Boulevard, Anderson Road and Sycamore Lane.

In preparation for repavement, a contractor will be doing extensive work on eastbound Russell, between Anderson Road and A Street, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, a city official said.

Patch work is scheduled Wednesday, Sept. 9, on that same stretch of Russell, westbound; on Anderson, between Russell and Sunset Court; and on Sycamore, between Russell and Wake Forest Drive.

Repaving is scheduled the week after:

Tuesday, Sept. 15—Russell Boulevard, between Anderson Road and A Street.

Thursday, Sept. 17—Anderson Road, between Russell and Sunset Court; and Sycamore Lane, between Russell and Wake Forest Drive.

TRY BEFORE YOU BUY AT THE ARC: The Activities and Recreation Center starts every quarter with Try Before You Buy—and for this fall quarter the dates are Sept. 21 through Oct. 3.

During this time, staff, faculty and students have free access to all group exercise classes (Sept. 21-Oct. 3) and all dance and martial arts classes (Sept. 27-Oct. 3). In the martial arts category, the ARC is now offering a muay Thai class.

Officials also announced that the ARC has upgraded most of its cardio equipment, and has added new high-definition televisions to the upper level.
