The campus bicycle registration fee and the renewal fee are going up effective Aug. 1. The new fees:
• Registration — $10 (up from $8).
• Renewal — $5 (up from $4).
All revenue supports the Bicycle Program, which promotes the safe, secure and efficient use of bicycles on campus, said David Takemoto-Weerts, the program coordinator.
He said the higher fees will offset the program’s rising operational costs. The Bicycle Program is a unit of Transportation and Parking Services, or TAPS.
Registration is required for all bicycles operated on the UC Davis campus.
For initial registration, a bicycle owner receives two stickers for his or her bike: one sticker is a permanent license that is always associated with that bicycle, and the other sticker is the registration tab, valid through Dec. 31 of the second year after the year in which the bike is licensed. For example, a license issued this month would be good through Dec. 31, 2011.
Bicycle registration can be accomplished at the TAPS office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The TAPS building is just north of the west entry garage, off Hutchison Drive.
Or you can go to any of these three bicycle shops in Davis:
• B&L Bike Shop — 610 Third St.
• Freewheeler Bicycle Center — 703 Second St.
• Ken’s Bike and Ski — 650 G St.
