The Department of Music announced that next week's free noon concert on Thursday will honor Grace Noda on the occasion of her 90th birthday. A department spokesman said Noda is a music department friend whose generous support made possible, among other things, the department's new marimba.

The new marimba is called "Marimba One," and that is the title of next week's concert, scheduled for 12:05 p.m. in the Rumsey Rancheria Grand Lobby at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.

The Department of Music announced that faculty affiliate Chris Froh and his students will be performing works composed and arranged for marimba, including pieces by Keiko Abe, J.S. Bach and Evelyn Glennie.
