FALL QUARTER

Christine Brewer, soprano, with the Symphony Orchestra—Works by Barber and Gershwin, as part of a program in which Brewer also performs works by Wagner, Strauss and Carter, with Craig Rutenberg, piano. 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, Jackson Hall, Mondavi Center.

Sideshow Physical Theatre: Elephant’s Graveyard—This new play, a production of the Department of Theatre and Dance, features music by graduate student Garrett Shatzer and faculty composer Laurie San Martin. Jade Rosina McCutcheon, assistant professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance, is the play's writer and director. 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Oct. 23-24 and 30-31, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25 and Nov. 1, Vanderhoef Studio Theatre, Mondavi Center.

Meridian Arts Ensemble, artist-in-residence—Faculty from the Manhattan School of Music comprise this sextet: five brass players and a percussionist, playing everything from J.S. Bach to Frank Zappa. 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, Vanderhoef Studio Theatre.

Causeway Band Festival Concert—University Concert Band, with the Meridian Arts Ensemble (artist-in-residence); the Wind Ensemble from California State University, Sacramento; the seventh- to ninth-grade and 10th- to 12th-grade festival bands; and composer-conductor Mark Camphouse. UC Berkeley’s Gamelan Sari Raras—Using century-old Javanese instruments, the gamelan will accompany a shadow play (wayang kulit)— with Midiyanto, the gamelan's co-director, as shadow master, casting shadows on a screen. The audience also will have the opportunity to see the shadow-making work behind the screen. 7 p.m. Friday, April 16, Vanderhoef Studio Theatre, Mondavi Center.
