First the Sacramento River Cats and then the Sacramento Kings honored our men’s and women’s basketball teams for their terrific seasons, and then, April 24, came official recognition — in the form of resolutions —from both houses of the state Legislature.
The men’s team made it to the Division I NCAA Tournament for the first time, and the women’s team advanced to the third round of the National Invitation Tournament. Go Ags!

Daughters and sons visit campus
Young visitors descended upon campus last week, but they weren't on a school tour. The annual Take Our Daughters and Sons Day, a "mini Picnic Day" for the mini companions of faculty and staff, showcased some of the campus's most kid-friendly activities. Daughters and sons who visited campus were able to toss a ball with the football team, visit the Raptor Center, see a reprise of the Picnic Day chemistry show, go backstage at the Mondavi Center and more.
Football discount for staff and faculty
Aggie football has a new coach, alum Dan Hawkins; a whole new outlook — and, as announced May 1, a $20 discount on season tickets for faculty and staff!
- We’ll pay $80 for a season ticket for regular reserved seats, a savings of 20 percent.
- We’ll pay $100 for a season ticket for premium reserved seats, a savings of almost 20 percent, but still a $20 discount. In addition, for faculty and staff, Intercollegiate Athletics is waiving its prerequisite for a Team Aggie donation of $300 before being allowed to buy season tickets for premium reserved seats.
Faculty and staff will need to use their UC Davis email addresses when buying the discounted tickets, and will be limited to six premium reserved season tickets.
Intercollegiate Athletics is also reminding people of the Family Plan, providing two season tickets and Jr. Aggie pass for berm seating (end zones), for $100, a savings of $30.
“We are hoping to generate a lot of faculty and staff interest about our football games this fall,” said Domenic Noto, associate director in the Fan Experience aspect of Aggie football. “This discounted ticket along with the second year of our Kickoff Street Party will be an awesome experience for our faculty and staff.”
The season includes five home games: Sept. 9 and 30, Oct. 7 and 28 (homecoming vs. Cal Poly), and Nov. 11. See the schedule here.
The faculty and staff ticket order form is available here as a PDF.
Two Aggies at White House Correspondents' Dinner
UC Davis was well represented at this year's White House Correspondents' Dinner — Hasan Minhaj '07, a correspondent on Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, was the featured entertainer, and Sawsan Morrar '06 attended and was awarded a White House Correspondent's Association scholarship.
Morrar, currently a student at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism said she shook hands with legendary reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein.
"As you may know, UC Davis alum Hasan Minhaj was the host," Morrar said. "It was great reuniting with him there. As I walked across the stage, Hasan cheered, 'Go Sawsan!'"
Her scholarship is a $5,000 grant toward her post-graduate degree.
