Just a jockey? Hardly!
See that jockey on the No. 5 horse, first across the finish line? That’s Ferrin Peterson, a fourth-year veterinary student, winning her first race! It happened Sunday (March 11) at Golden Gate Fields in Albany.
"Along with riding in races, Ferrin is currently a veterinarian student at UC Davis and has worked with numerous barns and veterinarians on the Golden Gate Fields backstretch," according to track announcer Matt Dinerman, quoted by LA Times horse racing columnist John Cherwa.
“After the big win, Ferrin was treated with buckets of cold water and shaving cream from her fellow riders. ‘That was the greatest feeling!’ quipped Ferrin.”
