THE DOWNLOAD: Volleyball Return, Conspiracy Podcast, Keelan Doss

Mahalia White didn’t take it easy during her first game back after beating cancer.

In her first match since being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma following the 2017 season, the sophomore organizational studies major was the star for UC Davis, tying the school's single-match hitting percentage mark with 13 kills in 16 swings without an error to hit .813 in the team's opener against Montana Aug. 30.

“But having a performance like she did in the first match of the fall season was just pretty amazing,” director of volleyball Dan Conners said. “I feel so lucky to be involved in that story and her life. She's such an amazing kid. I'm so proud of everything she puts in.”

New podcast examines conspiracy theories

UC Davis may be famous for its veterinary medicine program, but few people on campus can say their research involves “lizard people.” History professor Kathryn Olmsted, on the other hand, studies conspiracy theories like that one.

She’s hosting a new podcast miniseries, State of Conspiracy. It will be a four-episode run on Crooked Media, the same podcasting network that hosts the well-known Pod Save America and other shows. Olmsted’s show can be found under the “Crooked Minis” feed on Crooked Media’s website. The first episode covers conspiracy theories used by then-candidate Donald Trump.

If you’re looking for more podcasts, don’t forget about UC Davis’ forthcoming show Unfold, which will hit phones and computers Sept. 17.

Keelan Doss will play for Raiders after all

After briefly criss-crossing the country, an Aggie alum will suit up for his hometown football team after all. Keelan Doss was a fan favorite during the Oakland Raiders’ preseason training camp, thanks in part to his prominence on the HBO show Hard Knocks, which followed the team. He didn’t make the team’s final roster, and signed to a spot on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad.

He seemed settled for the season, until the Raiders cut ties with their recent star acquisition, Antonio Brown. Finding themselves with a vacancy at the same position Doss plays, the Bay Area team convinced Doss to return — this time, for a spot on the active roster.
