The bike circles are filling up, and so are the campus eateries.

As fall instruction begins this week, students and many employees will be on campus grabbing coffee, breakfast, lunch and more in restaurants and coffee shops operated by Dining Services and the Associated Students of UC Davis — many of which are just reopening after spending months dormant.

All three dining commons, plus the global Latitude Restaurant, are now open, as are Sage Street Market Café in UC Davis West Village and Scrubs in the Health Sciences District. Peet’s locations at the Silo and ARC are also up and running.

WHAT’S OPEN?

Spokes Grill in the Silo and the ASUCD Coffee House will open tomorrow (Sept. 22), and food trucks will return outside the Silo and Mondavi Center.

However, staffing shortages are still hampering efforts to feed Aggies. Dining Services had to close Latitude Market and delay the opening of the Peet’s outside King Hall because of a shortage of student employees, said Director Kraig Brady.

“We will look to later this fall quarter to bring these units back to life,” he said.

Darin Schluep, director of the Coffee House, said student staff members were “scrambling” this week but would be ready to open most of the historic eatery (Fickle Pickle Deli, Mandalay Express, Swirlz Bakery and TxMx Grill will tomorrow, while Ciao, Cooks and Croutons will wait for a later date. The CoHo South Café will also open tomorrow, but BioBrew, in the Sciences Lab Building, will not.). He said many open positions have been posted online.

“We’re hoping to get more folks going ASAP,” he said. “In the meantime, we appreciate everyone’s patience.”
