April 2, Friday -- A critical analysis of the war on terror, focusing on its effects on immigration law and the civil rights of immigrant communities, will be offered during a daylong symposium at UC Davis. "Immigration and Civil Rights After September 11: The Impact on California," presented by the UC Davis Law Review, is free and open to the public. Following a 9:15 a.m. welcome, four panel discussions are scheduled: The War on Terror, Racial Profiling and Immigrants, 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.; Detention of Immigrants: Recent Developments and the Future, 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; Guest Workers, 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.; and Activism in Immigration Communities, 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. The panelists will include academics as well as speakers from the legal and immigrant communities.
