The quarter may be winding down, but campus design students and other artists are busy with new shows for our viewing pleasure:
• Meet the Grads! — Introducing Art Studio MFA students and showcasing their work. Opening reception with refreshments: 4 to 7 p.m. this Thursday (Dec. 6), Basement Gallery (60 Art Building). Exhibition runs through Dec. 16. The gallery’s regular hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Throughout the show, some of the participating students will give talks addressing various topics as well as the works on display, while also describing the MFA program. Brief question-and-answer sessions will follow each talk.
• way finder — The UC Davis-affiliated TANA community art workshop presents paintings and prints by Jose Arenas, associate director of TANA, or Taller Arte del Nuevo Amanecer (Art Workshop of the New Dawn), a collaborative partnership of the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies and the greater Woodland community. “Arenas’ work speaks to histories and narratives of dual identity, displacement and dislocation common to the transnational immigrant experience,” reads the exhibition flyer from TANA. The exhibition will open with an artist reception to be held in conjunction with TANA’s fall open house, 5 to 7 p.m. this Friday (Dec. 7), with music by Eddie Lampkin, and refreshments. TANA also will be presenting silkscreen prints by workshop participants, according to the flyer, which adds that some of the artists will be in attendance and prints will be for sale. The way finder exhibition will run through March 1. TANA is at 1227 Lemen Ave., Woodland. Free admission (the reception and open house are also free).
