Bio Sci associate dean of research

Dan Starr, a cell biologist and professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, has been named the new associate dean of research for the College of Biological Sciences, effective Oct. 1.

“I see this position as an opportunity to encourage my colleagues to branch out and expand into new research areas,” Starr said. “Our research portfolio at CBS is already very strong. My goal is to build on our successes and to support future growth in our research programs.”

Engineering associate dean

Chris Cappa, chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been named the new associate dean for graduate studies and online education in the College of Engineering.

“I'm very excited to have the chance to work across the college to help advance the efforts of our talented graduate students and to further build a vibrant community of scholars,” he said. “I'm also looking forward to working with our incredible departments and graduate programs to expand their reach and connect with new and underserved groups of students.”

Ag and Environmental Sciences department chairs

The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences announced three recent chairs:

• Professor Joanna Chiu started July 1 as chair of the Department of Entomology and Nematology.
• Professor Andrew Whitehead started Aug. 1 as chair of the Department of Environmental Toxicology.
• Professor Emerita Mary Delany started Sept. 25 as interim chair of the Department of Human Ecology.
