The Office of the Provost released this announcement Monday (March 21):
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Mary Croughan has announced that Jason Stewart will take on the role of Interim University Registrar on April 4, 2022.
Currently, Stewart holds the positions of Assistant Director in the Office of Budget and Institutional Analysis, in Finance, Operations and Administration, and Senior Advisor for Institutional Analysis in the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. In both positions, he supports decision-making with data and analysis related to faculty, staff, and students.
Stewart has worked at UC Davis since 2009. Prior to that, he worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development in Washington, D.C., and served for two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mongolia. He has a master’s degree in public management from the University of Maryland and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Memphis.
The University Registrar plays a critical role in the University and Academic operations by effectively managing the maintenance and integrity of all student academic records, the approved curriculum, the creation and maintenance of course schedules, all areas of student registration and the recording and reporting of grades, as well as compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA.
“The University Registrar plays the key leadership role in our ability to meet the registration needs of students and UC Davis,” said Provost Croughan. “Jason Stewart is eminently qualified to keep the operations of the Office of the University Registrar running smoothly while we search for a permanent Registrar.”
Stewart will be replacing David Flores, who has been serving as Interim Registrar since May 1, 2021. After the transition, Flores will return to his previous position as Associate Registrar. Provost Croughan credits Flores with doing “an excellent job as Interim Registrar in the midst of very significant pandemic-related challenges.”
The provost will launch a national search for a permanent University Registrar, with the expectation that the position, which reports to the Interim Associate Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management, Deborah Agee, will be filled by the end of 2022. The creation of a recruitment advisory committee for the search is under way and the position will be posted in short order.
