NEW LIEUTENANT
The UC Davis Police Department invites the campus community to a town hall with the final candidates for the open lieutenant recruitment posting.
The meeting, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the King Room, second floor of the Memorial Union, is an excellent opportunity for campus community members to meet the potential candidates who will protect and serve our community; and additionally, supply the department with constructive feedback as we move forward to fill this critical position.
Want to learn more about police work? The UC Davis Police Department is holding its next Citizens Academy program in the winter quarter — Wednesday evenings from Jan. 9 through March 6.
The Citizens Academy is free and open to the public. UC Davis undergraduates can earn 2 units for participating.
About half the academy will comprise classroom instruction, the other half practical activities, said officer Ray Holguin, who is coordinating the program.
Participants will learn about police procedures for arrests and searches; defensive tactics; vehicle stops; evidence processing and fingerprints; and community-oriented policing.
The program also includes a tour of the Yolo County jail and coroner's office, and a mock court trial in collaboration with students from the School of Law.
The application form is available for download on the Citizens Academy webpage. Check there for more information, or contact officer Holguin, rholguin@ucdavis.edu, or Sue Crutcher, sacrutcher@ucdavis.edu.
