UC President Michael V. Drake issued the following message today (Dec. 15).
To the UC Community,
The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged us in countless ways over the past two years. But I continue to be inspired by the commitment of the UC community to lifting each other up, to following public health guidance and to pushing forward with the university’s mission during such trying times.
Unfortunately, the pandemic is not over. New variants, including delta and omicron, continue to emerge. In response, we’re asking all eligible community members to get a booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, in line with guidance from the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, our state leaders and UC’s own vaccine mandate policy.
Although there is still much we don’t know about the omicron variant, public health officials have made clear that the variant has the potential to spread quickly. This is especially concerning during the holiday season, when so many of us wish to spend time with family and friends.
Vaccination, including boosters, is still our best line of defense. If you have been vaccinated, we strongly encourage you to get a booster as soon as you are eligible. And if you haven’t already done so, please get vaccinated as soon as possible. You can find information about vaccination centers and appointments on the state’s My Turn website.
All of us have an important role to play in ending this pandemic. Please join me in this effort, and please stay safe this holiday season.
Fiat Lux,
Michael V. Drake M.D.

‘A DOSE OF HOPE’
- It changed everything: The first COVID-19 vaccine arrived at UC Davis Health one year ago.
- “We are strongly recommending that any employee or student who is eligible to receive a booster shot do so as soon as possible” — Chancellor Gary S. May, in his monthly letter, Dec. 10
