Prized Writing 2017-18, edited by Gregory Miller, a lecturer in the University Writing Program, comprises stories and essays on such topics as American mosques, avian respiration, Star Wars, slavery-era Jamaica, horticultural therapy, HIV legislation, music education, passcode technology, climate change policy, tropical ecology, fire management and romance in Australia. The included works were selected from about 400 submitted.
Students may submit any nonfiction work from any course, so entries range considerably in form and content. The UWP faculty who serve as jurors looked for pieces that were the best of their type, resulting in a collection that runs a gamut from popular science article and grant proposal to historical analysis and personal essay.
An awards ceremony honoring the winning authors and the cover artist will be held in AGR Hall at the Buehler Alumni Center, Tuesday, Oct. 9. A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the ceremony will begin at 6. The event is free and open to the public.
Prized Writing 2017-2018 will be available for purchase ($20) at the ceremony and will also be available at the Campus Store.
