The UC Office of the President has proposed two-year extensions for two policies: Employee-Initiated Reduction in Time, or ERIT, and Supplement to Military Pay. As part of the renewal process, employee comments are being taken through Monday, June 25.
The policies are set to expire June 30. Under the UCOP proposal, each would be extended to June 30, 2014. The policies are subject to collective bargaining for represented employees.
ERIT is optional throughout the system. The Davis campus has participated since ERIT took effect in 2010, and would continue participating if the program is renewed.
The UC Davis Health System does not participate, and would not participate during the renewal period, either, due to the necessity of having a full-time staff to provide patient care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
ERIT allows career staff — except senior management group members — to voluntarily reduce their hours and pay to help campuses gain temporary salary savings. In exchange, employees receive certain advantages, such as accrual of vacation and sick leave at pre-ERIT rates. Note, however, that UC Retirement Plan service credit accrual is based on the reduced percentage of appointment.

Under the Supplement to Military Pay policy, applicable systemwide, UC makes up the difference in pay in cases where military pay and allowances are less than the employee’s university wages.
