UC Davis' California Center for Urban Horticulture and the Master Gardener program is taking sign-ups for a winter fruit trees workshop Jan. 8 at Foundation Plant Services. In the event of rain that day, the alternate date is Jan. 22.
Winter Fruit Trees is part of the center's Your Sustainable Garden series.
"Spend the day with us learning about creating and maintaining sustainable home orchards of any size," said Melissa "Missy" Borel of the California Center for Urban Horticulture. "We’ll be learning about bare root tree selection, offering demonstration pruning and learning about winter pest prevention measures."
Registration is $45, including morning coffee, lunch and a bare root fruit tree, as well as parking.
"You'll leave prepared to start your own backyard fruit production," Borel said in an e-mail.
