Discover how to turn organic residuals into energy at the Pacific Southwest Organic Residuals Symposium Sept. 23 and 24.

Registration is now open for the UC Davis Extension course. UC Davis is offering a 20 percent discount to staff on the enrollment cost of $165. Students can attend free.

The event brings together organic residuals industry professionals, municipalities, regulators, researchers and other stakeholders to identify and help realize goals to maximize ecological and municipal benefits for food and green wastes, manures, biosolids and other organic residuals. Topics include energy recovery, interagency conflict resolution, and the technologies and financing options for organic residuals technology.

Symposium speakers include Mary Nichols, chair of the California Air Resources Board. A strong advocate for the environment and public health, Nichols was one of the first environmental attorneys in California and has held positions in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’. She also the director of UCLA’s Institute of the Environment.

The symposium will take place in the Activities and Recreation Center on campus. Sessions are scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event includes an optional trip to an innovative food waste power plant in Oakland on Sept. 22.
