Chancellor Gary S. May sent the following letter to Houston area higher education leaders on Tuesday, Aug. 29:
On behalf of UC Davis, I wanted to write to let you know you have our strongest support while you contend with the impacts of Tropical Storm Harvey.
We are thinking of all your staff, faculty and students as the Houston area copes with mass evacuations and public health emergencies. Our hearts are with all of you, and all those affected by this tragic event.
UC Davis stands ready to help. Our campus has a history of public service in times of natural disaster, including sending response teams to aid in relief efforts, and having our campus community step up to assist with numerous fundraisers.
I hope you find comfort in knowing that UC Davis is already jumping into action in your area. Dr. Roderick Fontenette, a volunteer Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at UC Davis and a member of the Air Force, has been deployed for emergency relief work in Texas. In addition, our Division of Student Affairs and Academic Senate are also conferring to see how our campus can best help.
Please contact me if the UC Davis community can be of assistance during this difficult time.
Best regards,
Gary S. May
Chancellor
